Synopsis:

A challenging, ethereal, celebratory play about the staging of a play, SAVED OR DESTROYED examines the parallels and paradoxes of life and theatre.

Production History:

SAVED OR DESTROYED was originally presented by Rattlestick Productions in New York City on November 20, 2000. It was directed by Craig Lucas with sets by John McDermott, lighting by Jeffrey Lowney, sound by Laura Grace Brown, and costumes by David Zinn. The production stage manager was William Ross Sanders. The cast was:

Anne: Scotty Bloch
Ivan: Larry Pine
Lucille: Julie Halston
Maurice: Ray Anthony Thomas
Harry: David Greenspan

The production was the centerpiece of Rattlestick Productions’ Harry Kondoleon Festival, which included five special events:
— a reading of Cote d’Azur Triangle hosted by Michael Feingold
— a reading of The Poets’ Corner directed by Marie Miller
— a reading of Self Torture and Strenuous Exercise hosted by Robyn Goodman and Stephen Soba, featuring Ned Eisenberg as Carl, Seana Kofed as Adel, Mark Linn Baker as Alvin, and Kristine Nielsen as Bethany, with stage directions by Brooks Ashmanskas
— a reading from Diary of a Lost Boy
     — a reading of Play Yourself directed by Doug Hughes with Kathleen Chalfant as Jean, Martha Plimpton as Yvonne, Amy Sedaris as Selma, Jeremy Shamos as Harmon, and stage directions by Jessica Kelly.
